You CAN find cheap flights to Orlando
Don't give up hope of finding cheap flights to Orlando, when booking your flights it is worth spending a little time exploring your options in order to find the best priced flight for you.
One of the main things which affects the price of flights is which dates you are looking to fly to Orlando, unfortunately a lot of us are stuck with school holiday periods
- and don't those flight providers just know it! You will often find that during the main holiday periods, prices are at least double what you would pay at other times, so if you can avoid these periods then it is definitely worth doing so.
If you have to go when it's busy do not despair, there are still ways to bring down the cost and find cheap flights to Orlando -
Airport Destination
There are two main airports which serve the area, these are Orlando International Airport and Sanford Orlando Airport.
Prices to the two often vary so it is worth your while checking for both. Whilst Sanford Orlando airport is about half an hour's extra drive from Orlando it is worth considering
that you will often get through customs and collect your luggage much more quickly there than you will when you arrive at Orlando International airport, so you can often save at least 15 minutes in getting onto the road.
There is not, therefore, as much to choose between the two Orlando airports as you may think, and we certainly like travelling to Sanford Orlando airport which always seems a little more relaxed.
Airline Company
Not surprisingly your choice of carrier can be a big factor in getting cheap flights to Orlando. Regular scheduled services are offered by the likes of Virgin Atlantic,
British Airways and First Choice - with these you get good standard meals, reasonably well sized seats and private seat back TV screens to watch a good choice of entertainment on, however these do tend to be the most expensive choice, particularly in school holidays.
Good alternatives are offered by the likes of American Airlines, Delta and Continental. With these carriers you usually get generous seating and entertainment is provided.
We have had good experiences on both American Airlines and Continental - a good tip is to choose your seats in advance and go for seats with a power point, you can then take a personal DVD player or laptop which can be powered for the full flight and is great for keeping the kids quiet. If you haven't bought a personal DVD player then you might like to consider it, after all you may well save enough on the airfare to cover the cost!
Flight Route
Although direct flights are the quickest, they are also usually the most expensive. Why not think about taking an indirect flight changing at somewhere like New York, Boston or Chicago?
Whilst the flight time is longer you do have the advantage that if you are travelling from outside of the USA, during the change over period you deal with the customs procedures, so when you land in Orlando you are coming off an internal flight which means you can get onto the road a lot more quickly.
Not only that but you get to see some new airport lounges. Flights are very flexible so don't be afraid to chop and change a little - take a different route going home so that you can get the best prices on offer and find good cheap flights to Orlando.
Final Considerations
Once you get to Orlando, then you will need to have your car hire sorted, it's best to arrange this ahead of your trip as you can't be sure that there will be cars available
when you arrive otherwise - even if you use the likes of Dollar. Seriously some friends of ours landed at Orlando International during a quiet time of year and thankfully
had arranged there cars as Dollar had a sign out to say that if you hadn't prebooked then they didn't have any cars. Follow our link to sort out your car hire.
Once you have booked your flight please make sure that you sort out your travel insurance. Many of the airline tickets are non cancellable and non transferrable so you need to have your travel insurance in place to cover you if you are unable to fly as most policies cover you not only while you re on holiday, but also cover you for losses due to unavoidable cancellation prior to going.
